Herd (or is it sounder) of 17 Javelina across a canyon.
Ray spotted these pigs feeding across a ridge during a brief break in the weather. We watched them for an hour and then went to cut them off. Picture taken through my 12x50 Pentax binoculars with the digital camera. Yes, the little black spots are Javelina, trust me. |
Ray with one of the 17 in the previous photo.
Everything about this worked out Great. Stalking quietly into the wind payed off for Ray. Allowing him too get an arrow off from his Onida bow at 8 yards. Nice old boar double lung pass thru made for a short tracking job.
Now if we can only get that smile off his face !!!
Thanks for letting me tag along....

Mary beats the odds and tags a Fall Turkey.
20 minutes after reaching our blind on our first morning, mary shoots this fine hen turkey at a water hole with the .22-250. She says "This turkey huntin' is pretty easy huh...." This was Marys first time/day ever hunting Turkey. I will ask her if she feels the same a few years from now. The success rate in Arizona for harvesting a fall bird is less then 6%. Good shot Mary. I have never seen so many turkey tracks on a single water hole before. The flock she shot this out of consisted of about 30 birds. I (Mark) have only one request, in the future, if you don't want to wade into the mud and water after your bird, don't shoot them while they are standing in it.... |
Mark tags one too...
Well as soon as Mary took her bird at about 75 yards with her rifle, the remainder of the flock took off in every direction, this hen happened to run into 2 ounces of copper plated and buffered #4's from my 870 at about 15 yards. This gun is 3 for 3 now. Three Magnum rounds fired and three Turkey tags filled. At this rate those 2 boxes of shells I bought 10 years ago should last me/us a long time. 8^)

Marks Javelina
Once again Ray spotted this pig. Long shot, offhand with the .25-06 and this pig was down. She weighed 40 lbs field dressed. Thanks for the help Ray & Mary. Poor shot placement will keep this one from going to the taxidermist. |
That's one White Wing...
Now I know this is just a Dove, but..... I have been hunting Doves for more then 20 years, and have shot thousands of rounds and who knows how many birds. This is the first White Wing I have ever harvested. Mary shot hers a few years ago on the first day/time she had ever hunted Doves. I just about fainted when I picked this bird up. It took a long time but now I can say "Yes, there are White Wing in Arizona during Dove season".
